It is said that there are two types of people that exist in the world. They are either leaders or followers. There is actually a third type that exists as well. And that is the independent. This is really someone who is a creator. Now most people would like to consider themselves as leaders, but it turns out that most people are really followers looking for a leader. Now in looking for a pastor for example, most people are looking for a leader . The problem here is that when you just lead as a pastor without using any of your other talents, you don't look back to see if you have lost any of your followers. Now I'm really speaking figuratively here, because most people have all the other characteristics of the various types of individuals as well. But at this point I'm only talking about those individuals where leadership is their prime characteristic Now there's a further problem here also. Leadership can cause conflict in that if you don't like one style of leadership, you will tend to follow another, and this could lead to competitive drives, which sometimes can be good, but at other times could be very divisive. This oftentimes happens within Christianity. Now there's a fourth type of person that exists in the world that you don't hear much about. And that is the Shepherd. This is especially true within Christianity. In fact the Spanish word for shepherd is Pastor. And in reality all Christians should be labeled as Pastors or Shepherds Now what is a Shepherd? A Shepherd is one who follows his or her flock, so that if he or she sees one of the flock going astray, he or she can go after them to see what their problem is and why they might want to leave the group. In other words, they are more attuned in keeping the group together. Now here again I'm only speaking figuratively in that I'm just speaking about one characteristic that can be dominant within one . In fact, in Scripture as I understand it, you never hear of Jesus being called a Leader. But you do hear of Him being called a Shepherd (John 10:11, 14). And we as Christians or Pastors should all follow Christ's example and be Shepherds or Reconcilers for the sake of mankind. IN FACT, IN ANY DECISION WE HAVE TO MAKE, WE SHOULD ALL ASK OURSELVES THIS QUESTION: "WHAT WOULD JESUS CHRIST DO IN SUCH A CASE?". IT MIGHT SOUND DIFFICULT TO DO AT FIRST, BUT THE MORE YOU DO IT, THE EASIER IT BECOMES. |
