How Long to Build Your Coaching Practice?

Have you ever wondered how long it will take you to build your own successful and stable coaching practice? Are you currently frustrated at the length of time it's taking you to attract coaching clients let alone achieve a consistent flow?

I'm often asked by coaches 'How long does it take to build a successful coaching practice?' My answer is always the same - it depends. It depends upon a number of key factors and here are the main ones:

1. Your mindset - Your own character and mindset will influence how long it takes you to build your coaching practice. How persistent are you? Are you confident in your own abilities?

How clear are you on your intention and the direction you are leading your coaching practice?

Are you expecting to succeed or are you subconsciously expecting your practice to fail?

Remember that you don't get in life what you want; you get in life who you are.

2. Your skill set - Your skills and experience will also affect the time it takes to build your own successful coaching practice. Obviously your coaching skills are part of this but they are not the most influential.

Think about your own experience in competently running a business and particularly your marketing skills. You see, it is these skills that will to a great extent determine the time it takes to fill and consistently attract clients.

3. Your choice of target market - The most crucial decision you will ever make in your coaching practice is your choice of niche. This will determine how easy (or difficult) it will be for you to attract clients into your coaching practice.

If you choose your niche wrongly a path of unnecessary struggle could await. If you choose your niche wisely your practice building path is made much easier.

I share with clients a process for effectively choosing a niche for a coaching practice and it can really make all the difference to the likelihood of success in attracting clients.

4. Your network - Obviously you can't build your own coaching practice in a vacuum. You will need the help and participation of other people to make your venture successful.

How well known are you already in your target market? How extensive is your contact list of friends, colleagues, clients and prospective clients?

Remember - your network will determine your net worth.

5. Your systems - Your what? If you don't have a number of key systems in place you could be unnecessarily hampering the speed at which you build your coaching practice and attract clients.

Think about what systems you can put in place for making it easier for you to run and continually improve your coaching practice.

If you are currently struggling to attract clients consistently into your coaching practice then the chances are good that you need to improve in one or more of the areas above.

However, awareness is only the first step. More importantly, what are you going to do about it?
