"Pride, envy, avarice -- these are the sparks have set on fire the souls of man." Alighieri Dante (1265-1321), Italian poet, "The Divine Comedy" Who in all honesty can say they have never been in touch with their own green-eyed monster? By that, I mean those feelings of envy or jealousy that can swamp you at the most inconvenient times. Its a cramp in your stomach, a ringing in your head, or maybe even a hunger. If you let it, it will lead to the most ghastly destructive emotions and will affect everything you do. So my suggestion is to face up to it, grab your own green-eyed monster by the horns, and turn what can be a very negative situation into a positive one. What are you talking about? I can hear you asking. No, I havent gone mad. Working with clients wanting to create a vision of their ideal life or career, I ask them to picture what it is like. I ask them to add as much detail as they can, including sights, sounds, tastes and even smells! Then I ask Can you feel it? If they have no physical sensations about their dream life, then we go back to basics and re-write that vision until they can feel it and want it so badly that they do feel an ache. Almost like jealousy and envy. So when you feel jealous or envious of someone elses success or possessions, why not turn that to your advantage? Utilize the strength of those emotions to stimulate you into making plans and taking action so that you can have achievements of your own. Like the car? How can you get your own? So theyve lost 10 pounds. You can too. Ask yourself how badly you want those things and instead of concentrating on how unfair life is, grab that green-eyed monster by the horns and get him working for you instead of against you. |
