Gym: An Adult Playground?

How true the statement is? In my humble opinion, gyms that I frequent (though not that many~ 8) proved me right. It has all the elements of an adult playground i.e.: violence, profanity, sex, strong view and characters.

If you have ever step into a gym, you will definitely sensed there should be warning sign on the entrance door that sounds, 18 years and above only! Do not get me wrong, gym is a healthy place and should be promoted as a place for family day. Nonetheless, care must be taken because GYM will always be an adult playground.

This article is written not to condemn any gym but only to inform hot-blooded guys that it is a healthy place only if they know the unwritten rules. Hence precaution can be taken and unwanted events will be minimized.

Please accept the facts that profanity is a common and bonding language in a gym for guys. With every shout or yell of profanity there is an increase surge of testosterone which equates to an improved of performance. A common four letter word is an important before exercise mantra.

Sexual elements, well it is a too common in gym. No worries, it is all for the better since many find love and lust. But for most sexual elements are great boosters of testosterone. Ever seen a poster of a sexy well-toned lady model in bikinis hanged right above the squad bar. Trainers will always advised to use the poster as the focal point when doing squat exercises. Gods forbid but it works.

But not all are positive results. I personally hurt my rotator cuffs thanks to a buddy thats so into his conversation about women and sex that he never even realized I have reached my failure plateau for military press. Weights give way and I have to rest for 2 solid months.

Gym goers are made up of diverse personalities. As usual some get along and some not. Well if they are not acquaintances well there will still be basic human manners. Nonetheless, newly formed friendships in gyms do really bothers some. Relationship maybe rosy in the beginning but it may end up in shambles no thanks to some clash of personalities. Their quite commons hence do not get turn off by it. Each person has different opinions of every matter.

I have experienced personally when 2 acquaintances of mine ended up in a no speaking terms for a silly bet of who has bigger arms. An every day event started from a friendly competition progresses into name-calling, exercise critics and sore losers. Guess it is really not an adult playground in this case. They look like 5 years old boys fighting over a toy.

Am I still into weight training? Definitely yes. All the above just spices up my gym sessions. Will I encourage my kids to workout in a gym? Without doubt yes since the benefits outweigh the cons. Releasing of unwanted violence or stress in oneself through weight training is so effective. After a rough and stressful day at work, weight training session follow by a hot bath always do the trick. To say the least, I feel so refreshed and pump up for work the next day.

Through my 30 years in this beautiful world, only weight trainers and body builders will be eager to feel aches and pains. Some are even disappointed and stressed that they do not have such aching sensation a day after a workout. Insanely, they will rush to pump their socks off after work the very next day to achieve a perfect workout.

Gym is definitely an adult playground for many of my gym buddies and me. It is like a sanctuary for many men as like how many women appreciate a day in a beauty spa.

Call me insane or crazy but weight training is hook for life in me. Some old folks say, You will always find a precious something in between all the thick smog. Guess I have found mine in a gym. It gets me a stronger body and a healthier life.
