Stop Compromising Your Life

"If you limit yourself only to what seems possible or reasonable, you disconnect yourself from what you truly want, and all that is left is a compromise." Robert Fritz: Author of The Path of Least Resistance

I came upon this quote and the beauty and simplicity of it struck to the core of my being. Ah, why do we only strive for what we think we can do - which is usually based upon our past achievements? This keeps us stuck.

Conditioned to Compromise

Employers are notorious for keeping us stuck. They give you a job because you have all of the skills that are needed for that particular position. Rarely is it a stretch job. After two months in a new job, most of us are ready to move on, but there is nowhere to move.

And when we start looking for other opportunities, traditional career counselors advise us to make a list of our strengths and skills. We start looking for jobs based upon our resume - which is a list of what we have learned in the past.

Reach for the Unreasonable

Maybe we should start looking for work based upon what we want to learn in the future. Who cares what we are good at now? Let's figure out what we want to do next! As Joseph Campbell says, "Follow your bliss!" And if I am dissatisfied with my current job situation, chances are that bliss lies elsewhere.

So, how do you connect with what you truly want? How do you discover your bliss? You need to undo most of your conditioning, ignore your should's and inner critic and start paying attention to what is fun. What gives you energy? What feels like play? What activities do you get so engaged in that you lose track of time?

Stop paying attention to negative self-talk. Clear out mental garbage and allow space for your heart and body wisdom to be heard.

You must visualize what you really want and avoid saying that something is not possible. Everything is possible. You are a powerful creator. We all have a tendency to block our power - either through self-doubt, lack of focus, or fear. Our real work is to get out of our own way and let our creative energy pour through us to create what might initially seem impossible.
